Bredagh senior ladies see off Carryduff challenge

Bredagh Selfie Tan Senior Ladies Match Report vs Carryduff – 3rd June 2017

On a lovely Cherryvale sun-drenched Saturday evening, Bredagh Senior Ladies playing in Round 9 of the league secured their 5th league win in a row in front of a large and vocal crowd. The fact that this was a derby game against our neighbours Carryduff added to the sense of occasion.

Bredagh set their stall out early with Laoise Duffy scoring a point after Bredagh had won the ball from the throw in and Laoise added to her tally shortly after with another point. Michelle Magee hit back for Carryduff with a converted free after Bredagh coughed up a turnover and another point to level matters. After a further point each with the Bredagh point scored by Cassie Moane following some patient play across the pitch, Bredagh stepped up a gear with Aislinn McFarland and Laoise Duffy dictating midfield and the Bredagh half backs to the fore. Bredagh scored 2-4 without reply to go into a 10 point lead. Maeve Deery had a hand in both the Bredagh goals – the first coming from a great one two played with Erin McGinn with the first attempt being saved and Maeve netting the rebound. The second goal was scored by Ella Durkan following a great run and pass from Maeve. In between the two goals, Laoise Duffy scored a fine point from a move which started in the half-back line and Ella Durkan kicked two points which came as a result of Bredagh pressure resulting in a turnover and an interception. Erin McGinn added a further point to finish the half.
Half-time score: Bredagh 2-8, Carryduff 0-4.
Bredagh managed to register the first two scores of the second half with an Ella Durkan converted free and a Laoise Duffy driving run from half forward down the centre of the Carryduff defence which resulted in a point. As expected, Carryduff came back into the game and managed to score two goals through Michelle Magee and Erin Robinson. However the Bredagh defence, ably assisted by Nuala Carvill, weathered this storm and the gap between the teams never narrowed to less than 4 points during the half. Bredagh had a chance to pull further ahead with a great goal opportunity but were foiled by a great save by the Carryduff keeper, though Bredagh managed to salvage a point from this attack. Laura Kilpatrick marked her competitive debut with two well taken points. Dee Curran contributed a fine point and Ella Durkan’s converted free finished the scoring for Bredagh.

Final score: Bredagh 2-15, Carryduff 2-10.
