Senior Hurling results round 1

Ballygalget 1-23 Bredagh 1-12

Bredagh senior hurlers sponsored by Used Cars NI faced a tough assignment on Friday night when they took on Ards kingpins Ballygalget at home, in their return to senior championship action.

Although they went down by 11 points in the end, they put in a magnificent shift and were certainly not out of their depth. Magic Johnson inspired the home team to victory but Bredagh were not without their stars.

Ian Galway was assured in nets and could do nothing for the goal when faced one on one with Johnson. Michael Woods Matthew McAreavy and Aaron Carey stood out in a solid Bredagh defence. Full back Tom McGuckian when moved to full forward for a period in the first half struck a superb goal after a driving run and layoff by Cormac O’Rawe. The Bredagh midfield of Mark Patterson and Joe Hanrahan put in their usual powerhouse performance and up front Sean Hughes, Cormac O’Rawe and Ciarán McMullan stood out in a hard working attack.

This was the first of a 6 game round robin competition and the experience at this level will be invaluable as Bredagh strive to eat at the top table on a regular basis.

Next up is Portaferry on Wednesday night.  Support welcome (within the official guidelines).
