Bredagh reserves 1-19
Castlewellan 1-13
Castlewellan travelled to Cherryvale tonight and put in an excellent performance making Bredagh fight hard for a victory which keeps them at the top of the group with a crucial final game against Portaferry on Sunday, a place in the league final, the prize.
Bredagh did keep their noses in front throughout the game but found it hard to break away as Castlewellan fought hard for every ball and picked off some excellent points. It was score for score in the opening exchanges, Bredagh’s points coming from Aidan Donaghy, Liam Hogan, Tiarnan Sheehan Neall Torney and Ryan Curran. Matt McAfee cracked in a neat goal to give Bredagh some breathing space and they went in at half time 5 ahead, 1-8 to 0-6. Bredagh.
In the second half the Bredagh boys lifted the intensity and the forwards particularly Curran and Hogan kept the scoreboard ticking over. Midfielder Danny Robinson and substitute Eoghan Curran also chipped in with good scores. Just when it looked like the home team might pull away the men from the Mournes manufactured a late goal to bring it back to a 4 point game. Late points from Robinson and Sheehan sealed the 6 point win.
