Bredagh 1-14 Castlewellan 1-11
After a very shaky start which saw Castlewellan scoring 1-01 in the opening minute the Bredagh lads settled and had the defecit reduced to just one point by the first water break. Three Donal Hughes frees and points from John McKenna and Tommy McElroy brought Bredagh right back into contention.
Excellent defending led by Tim Cunningham, Brendan Gallen and Aodhan O’Keefe frustrated the Castlewellan attacks forcing pot shots from distance. Bredagh stuck to their game plan and went into the half-time interval leading by one point. Two points from Donal Hughes (free and inside mark) and a point from play from Joe Sheilds leaving a scoreline of Bredagh 0-08 Castlewellan 1-04 at the short whistle.
Bredagh came out in the second half and continued with a good defensive structure forcing turnovers and quick breaks out of their defence. This patience was rewarded with plenty of good attacking opportunities. Whilst Bredagh could have scored more with better composure in front of goals, they did enough to keep ahead. A second half goal by Joe Sheilds, three points from Donal Hughes and points from Matthew Hamilton, Tommy McElroy and Sean Hughes saw Bredagh win by a three point margin.
Well done to all players, management skills and supporters who attended the game.
