Bredagh 3-14 Glenn 1-08
Bredagh senior footballers travelled to Glenn last Friday evening for their series 17 Division 2 league fixture.
An impressive Glenn outfit had come to Cherryvale on a Friday evening earlier on in the season and headed back down the road with two points after a fine display of football. In contrast to that Bredagh left Glenn last Friday evening with two points in the bag following a good team performance on the night.
With a number of regular starting players unavailable, the team took on a slightly different appearance from the off. It became apparent from early on that the Bredagh lads meant business as they took the game to the St Martins men. An exchange of points in the first 10 minutes saw stand-in free-taker Joe Sheilds kick two points from placed balls and a further point from play. At 0-3 a-piece this was the only time Glenn were on equal terms during the game. Bredagh pulled away, excellent defending by Paddy McLaughlin, Conal Toland, Michael Woods and man of the match Kevin Dornan frustrated the home side as they were turned over on nine occasions within the Bredagh 45m line in the first half and at the other end a series of scores by the Bredagh men, Conor McCloskey (1-1), Tommy McElroy (0-1) and Joe Sheilds (0-7, 3 frees). The lead could have been even greater only for Paddy Hannity’s rocket of the shot to hit the cross-bar and come tamely back into play. Glenn chipped over a score on 25 minutes, but Bredagh finished out the half the stronger with points from Kealan Devlin and Tommy McElroy. Half-time Glenn 0-4 Bredagh 1-11
Paddy Hannity opened proceedings in the second half with a good point. Glenn then got a glimmer of hope of getting back into contention with a very well taken goal followed by a point to bring the deficit back to 7 points. However, the home side were unable to push on as Bredagh kept up the intensity and pressure which saw the visitors effectively close out the game on 15 minutes when first the energetic Kevin Dornan hit the back of the net closely followed by Conal O’Rawe see his effory also ripple the net to give Bredagh a 13 point lead. Both teams then traded points, Matthew Hamilton (0-1) and Tim Cunningham (0-1) which was the last action of the game.
