Bredagh 0-13 Portaferry 4-19
The Bredagh hurlers went down down heavily to very slick Portaferry team at Carryduff last night. The Ards men with a liberal sprinkling of County players brought an intensity to the game that Bredagh found difficulty in matching. It is however this level of hurling Bredagh aspire to and kept fighting to the end with some inspirational play themselves particularly from the likes of Niall McFarland, Joe Hanrahan Ronan Costello and Donal Hughes.
Bredagh were quick out of the blocks when Ronan Costello fired over 2 excellent points from play but then came the Portaferry backlash. When Daithi Sands flashed 2 quick goals to the net and Paudie Doran was on target with a number of frees the writing was on the wall for the Belfast men. Trailing 0-5 to 3-12 at half time Bredagh did bring the game to their opponents in the second half and were crawling their way back when they conceded a penalty. Doran’s strike was well saved by Ian Galway but the rebound was despatched to the net and it was game over.
This is all part of the learning curve for this young Bredagh team and they will have another tough assignment on Tuesday when they visit McKenna Park to take on Ballycran who currently sit top of the pile with 2 wins out of 2. The boys will relish the challenge.
