Betsy Gray Shield result
Ballycran 1-16 Bredagh 0-16
Bredagh senior reserve hurlers sponsored by BFIT Belfast were back on the road this Saturday when they travelled to the Ards to take on Ballycran. After last weeks agonising 1 point defeat to Warrenpoint they were again unlucky to return home empty handed this time losing out by a goal. Again an exciting game against a Ballycran side which had a good blend of experience and youth.
Bredagh had wind advantage in the first half and played brilliantly firing over some excellent points from the sticks of Liam Hogan Tiarnan Sheehan Niall Irwin Joe McKee Matt Mcareavey and even corner back Conn McFarlane getting in on the act with a lovely long range effort.
By half time the visitors had built up an 8 point lead 0-6 0-14 but in the second half, as expected and with the wind in their backs, the Crans came roaring back. They chipped away at the Bredagh lead and with 5 minutes left they had drawn level at 0-14 each. But Bredagh came storming back and with 2 super points by Matt McAreavey and Tiarnan Sheehan it looked like the the points were in the bag.
Ballycran however showed exceptional character to crack in the only goal of the match to take the lead for the first time and then tag on 2 further points in the final minute to secure the win. This was an outstanding team performance by the Breadagh men but special mention must go to keeper Stevie Young who pulled off a number of top class saves throughout the game.
This was the final game for the senior reserves who will have a short break from games before resuming their league campaign.
